The networks are almost acting like suicide bombers, willing to destroy themselves in order to keep a few paltry dollars out of the hands of the writers as new media is developed.
Ironically, that same new media will be the prime venue for entertainment as original programming declines in quality and quantity.
The headline that grabbed my attention this week was about the 15,000 (!) Americans on the no-fly list who shouldn't be there and the government doesn't seem to be able to figure out who should or shouldn't be allowed to fly. They aren't trying to keep us from leaving the country, are they? With the falling dollar, they've made it even more difficult for foreign tourists to get visas to come here to spend their money as the US becomes a travel bargain. Are they trying to shoot our economy in the foot?
Locally, the news that the LAPD is trying to profile and map Muslim communities in Los Angeles hasn't been getting nearly the attention from civil libertarians it should.
And all the while, the Chinese are poisoning our kids, spilling oil in San Francisco Bay, and generally tripping up our economy...

I work exclusivly in new media - have for years - and I gotta tell ya, the only money in new media is cashing out your new media stock before the suckers figure out the only money in new media is cashing out your new media stock. Everyone in high-tech knows all the projected revenues the entertainment industry are fighting over are just that -projected.
The LA Times ran about the part-time masseuse who answered an ad for a start-up company in Silicon Valley, making $450 a month & stock options she figured would be worthless... the company was Google and now she's a millionaire umpteen times over. And she doesn't have to give back rubs to snotty geeks anymore...
There's probably a (number of) good reasons that the warehouse off the Embarcadero where Philo T. Farnsworth perfected his crazy invention that came to be known as television isn't marked by some kind of museum or monument. Most likely cuz the powers that be that COULD have financed him are still kicking themselves in the butt I doubt it was because they were book readers). Of course, someone else DID get rich off of his invention, but that's another story...
